James was born in Danville, Kentucky in 1953. He was raised on a small tobacco farm in Casey County, Kentucky. He graduated from Morehead Grade School in 1967, followed by Rowan County High School 1971 He then attended Morehead State University, receiving a B.A. in Pre-Law 1975. Finally he graduated with his J.D. at Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1978. James has spent the past the past 45 years defending Kentucky workers’ compensation claims. He lives in Louisville with Harriet, and Rafa, the squirrel killing dachshund.
